It was several days after the attack on the market by the feudal lord army, or rather, the Wind Dragons’ attack. The knights, soldiers, and the adventurers of Frey Town cooperated to form a defensive brigade against the dragons. Maa, what they would be able to do against the creatures flying in the sky was limited, so most of their work was evacuating the residents. There were also some people among the residents, who had acquaintances in a different village or town, who would hire the adventurers as escorts to take refuge. In fact, nothing happened, but it couldn’t be helped that just from that, there had been people recently who wanted to leave the town after seeing a dragon. However, it seems that there were many people who, even if they wanted to evacuate, could not do so because they didn’t have any acquaintances, and due to the issue of money.

I received information from the people at the market that the Wind Dragons had returned to the forest, so this situation would probably continue on for at least a week.

「Hey, how much longer do we need to be like this?」

When it was no longer to the extent that people were taking refuge in other towns, the adventurers who had a low rank no longer had anything to do. On the other hand, it wasn’t the same as going to some town or harvesting in Dragon Forest, so Cruz-kun had a lot of free time.

Truthfully, I knew that it was already safe, but I couldn’t say that, so I could only say something ambiguous. However, besides Cruz-kun and the low-ranked adventurers, everyone, other than those who went on reconnaissance, had a lot of free time as there were no monsters. 

And, there was a new problem here. The feudal lord started saying that he would not pay the Adventurer Guild. In the event of a disaster due to monsters, the feudal lord army would take action in response, but if there was insufficient personnel, they would commission the adventurers. Of course, the retaining fee was borne by the feudal lord.

This time, the opponents were the Wind Dragons, and there would naturally be insufficient people if it was just the feudal lord army, and the feudal lord was considered to be the cause of all this in the first place, so it was natural that he would commission the Adventurer Guild. Rather, they coordinated with them and I thought their response was quick. However, the feudal lord said that the Wind Dragons were no longer there and he would not pay money for the guild’s unauthorized actions and it seems that he refused to pay.

Everyone was astonished by this, but the ones who were affected the most were the low-ranked adventurers. They couldn’t go to Dragon Forest, the town was also in evacuation mode, so they were unable to take on any requests, and they did not receive the retaining fee that they were supposed to get for guiding the evacuation, which was adding insult to injury as those whose ranks were low were living difficult lives to begin with. Fortunately, the orphanage group was running a soup kitchen, so it seems they managed their meals somehow. Ojii-san was also one of the causes of this commotion, so I needed to do what I could. He’s always taking care of me, and because he was, more or less, doing it for us. Or rather, that Ojii-san, had joined the soup kitchen before anyone realized it….

After that, the higher-ups of both the guild and the feudal lord army discussed it and it was decided that it would be fine to go harvesting in the shallow parts of Dragon Forest. That was what we had always done, and it was believed that the reason why the dragons appeared was because the feudal lord led an army there. However, there was a requirement that if it seemed like the situation was different from normal or not the same as the information provided from the reconnaissance of the forest, then we had to retreat immediately.

There was also something good for the low-ranked adventurers who felt troubled. Due to a shortage of goods, meat and medicine were sold at higher prices than usual. And, although it had only been a few days, because Dragon Forest was allowed to take a rest, they harvested a large amount of medicinal herbs even though they were in the shallow parts of the forest. Thanks to that, they, more or less, had money in their pockets and they were now able to take on evacuation guidance work whenever they wanted.

Although the people from the guild were also worried about us, our daily lives did not change much. Although the children were scared, there was nothing they could do as they couldn’t live anywhere else. The familiars were always around, so they might give them a sense of security. 

About a week had passed since the appearance of the Wind Dragons, and when life gradually returned to normal, an army from the imperial capital appeared.
