Chapter 17-Drop items were treated like trash

Happy Monday!

Here’s the chapter, enjoy.

「There nothing but fur and moss.」

「How could…maa,  they could only collect this much.」

「If we don’t process it right away, then they won’t be any good anymore.」

「This one has a large amount of milk. Ah, there’s also empty bottles as well.」

「They probably drank some during their search. I gave them permission, so that’s not much of a problem.」

Okaa-san, of course, did not give permission, and after taking out all the furniture from one of the parlors on the first floor, we carried the cargo into that room.

We opened the wooden boxes that had piled up and checked the contents.

「I wonder if Chelsea came? If it’s her, then she would be able to turn the red-capped mushrooms into potions and the moss into moss potions, right?」

「Aah, there are bottles too, so we can provide the containers too. Maybe we can let her use part of the town hall as a workshop.」

「Then perhaps we can turn the milk into cheese. Compared to the milk, there’s not a lot of meat.」

「They probably ate it on the way back. The drop for the Millox is mostly meat though.」

「Even with just this, it’s too much for our family to consume. Let’s give some to the people of the territory.」

「Yes. Why don’t we come up with an appropriate excuse to distribute it.」

Otou-san said that as he handed me the『Fresh Milk』, which was a rare drop that came from the Milloxs.

「Is it alright to do this?」

「Aah. It’s delicious. You can try it.」

When I reached out to take it, Cynthia, who was standing to the side, took it away and took off the lid.

「Go ahead.」

「Thank you.」

There was a small knife in Cynthia’s hand and the paper lid was on the tip of the knife.

Un, if you didn’t have a pick on you, then you wouldn’t be able to open it.

The bottle was big, so I used two hands to drink from it so that it wouldn’t spill.

It had a richer flavor than the milk that I drank in Japan. It wasn’t smooth when going down either. Even so, it was delicious and I felt excited as I haven’t had milk in a while.

「It’s delicious!」

「Gil-chan, it’s spilling, you know?」

Okaa-san wiped my mouth with a handkerchief.

「The bottle is too big for Gil. I’ll give you a cup so you can drink from it.」

「Yeees.」

「Arkham-sama, to begin with, there are no nobles that would drink directly from the bottle.」

「That is true too, huh.」

Otou-san gave a wry smile.

In the first place, one bottle was too much for me. Half a cup should be good enough.

「Thank you for the food.」

The next bottle would definitely be after taking a bath.

「The Kobolds’ fur, what are we going to use it for?」

In the game, it was an item that could only be sold to the stores. Even so, it was basically worthless.

「Maa, to be honest, there’s not much use for it.」

「I wonder if they can be used for writing brushes and pet brushes?」

「But they gathered them for us.」

「As long as they are not Slimes, the drops have to be picked up. If they were lying around at your feet, then they would be a hindrance in battle, and depending on the type of drops, the monsters would use them as well. If we left the small mana stones and materials that are imbued with mana, other monsters would eat those mana stones and they would get stronger. It is common practice to not leave anything in the dungeon. Though it’s a different story if something happened that had a direct impact on your life.」

Aah, they’re not going to be absorbed by the dungeon after a certain amount of time, right?

「These are the claws and fangs of wolves.」

「These are difficult to utilize as well.」

「These are wooden pieces. Nn? This box, was it made from these wooden pieces?」

「Hoou.」

How should I say it, this was the essence of recycling.

「This is, a clump of mud. Maybe it’s a drop from the Mud Puppet.」

「Should we give it to the farmers to turn it into manure.」

「If we have the alchemists process them, they would become good manure though.」

「Those alchemists would probably be holed up making potions and mana potions for a while.」

The Mud Puppet drops looked exactly like clumps of mud. It should have been possible to remake them into things like adhesives and fertilizers, which could be submitted in quests around the city. They would make them for their occupation.

「This is, a bundle of papers. Is it a drop from a Ride Booker?」

「There is an blank grimoire?」

「There is. Just one though.」

「I see!」

「Oooh!」

「That’s amazing!」

The blank grimoire was essential for making grimoire type items, including the occupation books.

「Are these pages the only copy of the grimoire?」

「This bundle of cords is the drop from the automaton.」

「Ah! Cold gears! Two of them!」

I found gears when I was looking through the pages.

「Another difficult thing appeared.」

「Gil boy knows a lot.」

「It was written in a book.」

The drop from the automaton was a bundle of cords. They were extremely sturdy and long and it would be difficult to cut through them.

The female model of the automaton had the rare drops of cold gears and the male models dropped ball-and-socket joints.

They were rare drops that could be used to produce items that could tame automatons. I wanted them, but in the game, the item had never appeared, which made me cry.

There were other necessary items as well, not just these, but even though it wasn’t like I could immediately turn them into a taming item, I wanted it.

「This heavy wooden box has iron ingots. As expected, there’s not many of them.」

「That’s because when dealing with Stone and Iron Golems, their weapons would be scrapped.」

「Maybe it would be best to have them make weapons especially for Golems.」

In the game, weapons would not be broken, but that would be impossible here.

Weapons made of metal were high-class items. It seems that there were not many adventurers who wanted to challenge a tough opponent like the Iron Golems with a sword.

「Also, these are mana stones. They range from large to small. Though I would like to gather them to make mana nuclei.」

「Aah, there are not enough alchemists.」

Otou-san had a serious look on his face.

「They are items that we won’t take out for the time being. We can consume the milk and the meat, but what should we do with the rest.」

「We return a few of them to the people from the clan who know about the situation. We can leave the materials that are needed for potions.」

「I will put the items that could be sold into storage and we can only dispose of the rest.」

Okaa-san said that and sighed.

「Could you please give me the pages of the grimoire? We can use them for practicing Gilbert-sama’s letters.」

「Eh?」

「Cynthia, that is a splendid suggestion. Arkham, use this when you jot down notes.」

「Aah, let’s do that.」

「Haeh? We’re going to use monster drops to study? We’re not selling them?」

「The pages of the grimoire, honestly, has no value.」

「They are produced in large quantities in the dungeon where Ride Bookers appear, with the goal being the『Blank Grimoire』, which is a rare drop.」

「Wasn’t it 1,000 cash for a set of 500?」

「Eeh!? That’s such a waste!」

Even though the pages of the grimoire could be used to make card items!

「The alchemists can use them to make magic cards though.」

「Magic cards, they are inconvenient. Despite that, the price is considerable.」

「Really?」

The magic card was a card that you loaded with magic beforehand and then use it when necessary and was a consumable item.

The damage was calculated based on the mana of the user, so in the early stages, they were often used by those with priest-type occupations, who were likely to have free hands, as a source for dealing damage.

「Younger master, it is because they are made by alchemists. The more time they spend making potions and mana nuclei, the more expensive it will be.」

「There are also cases where it is only the nobles who buy them, you know? For adventurers, they won’t use things like magic cards.」

「It is as the Madam says. There are no adventurers who would go to the trouble to go to places where they have to use magic cards to attack.」

Cynthia elaborated on the topic.

「Then the grimoire pages, can I use them as I like?」

「Aah. practice your handwriting as much as you want.」

「Yees.」

That wasn’t my intention though!
