Today as well, we went to Dragon Forest to harvest food. 

Even though we were only children, Cruz-kun and Ilya-chan, who were slightly older, were here, so recently, we had been coming and going through the town’s gate.

Originally, we could not leave town without an adult, but the soldiers, who were the gatekeepers, knew of the orphanage’s circumstances, so they made an exception and let us leave.

Also, besides residents, adventurers, and members of the Commerce Guild, one had to pay a fee to enter the town, but this too had been waived for us. We lived in the town, so weren’t we residents? You might have thought this, but we did not pay taxes, so on paper, we were not recognized as residents.

It wasn’t good to always be indebted to them, so we gave them some fruit when we returned. The soldiers were happy.

「Oh, the kiddos from the orphanage!! You’re going to Dragon Forest today too?」

「Un.」

「Be careful on your way!!」

「「「「Yes!!」」」」

「Aah, also, recently, the number of adventurers have increased and there are more bad adventurers, so be careful!」

「Bad?」

「There has been an influx of adventurers in this town recently, but there are a lot of them who are causing trouble for the residents. Because of that, we are busy too and it’s unbearable.」

「Are there such people?」

「They are, more or less, adventurers, but it seems that they barely do any guild work. It seems that recently, there are people who extort the residents’ harvest in Dragon Forest.」

「There are people who do that!?」

「It seems that they were employed by the lord. Maa, you guys be careful. If they do something to you, tell us!!」

「Understood. Thank you very much. Well then, we’ll get going.」

「「「See you later♪」」」

「Pyui~」「Kyui~」

「Ou, be~careful!!」

「Recently, there’s been talk that the public order is bad, but there’s that kind of people, huh~.」

「We need to be careful as well.」

「You guys too, don’t walk around town by yourselves, ok?」

「「Yes (Un).」」

After that, arriving at Dragon Forest, we headed towards the usual place. However, the number of times we passed by adventurers had certainly increased recently.

We didn’t hide from them like we used to, but there were no adults with us, so we made sure to not get too close.

However, there was a limit to not meeting them when there’s this many of them.

「There’s this many people, then the things that can be collected around here would decrease.」

「That’s true, it might be better to go somewhere else.」

「Is it far?」

「Let’s see~, if we’re going some place else, we can only either go deeper into the forest or go to a place further away from the main path.」

「It would be dangerous to go deeper, you know?」

「That’s true, it’s still too dangerous for us to go there. Then, why don’t we go on a short trip today and look for a new location!!」

I disagreed with Cruz-kun’s opinion as it was dangerous because I had neither a weapon nor armor. And so, we did not go deeper into the forest and decided to look for a place further away from the main road that led to the town.. 

We arrived at a place that was approximately an hour away from the edge of the forest.

I had wanted to harvest some things at the usual places on the way, but as expected, there was the presence of people, so I gave up.

Why don’t we start harvesting, thinking this, each person surveyed the area around them. There’s Pii-chan’s surveillance from the sky, my mana detection, Cruz-kun and my younger sister’s sense of smell, and Ilya-chan and Miu’s sense of hearing. 

And then, I detected a weak mana response. However, it was too weak and I did not know how many of them there were. It seems that Cruz-kun had smelled blood as well. 

Ilya-chan said that they could hear a cry. 

We decided to check it out and carefully went closer.
